Way To Go!
Congratulations to Ian Jones and Oliver
Seekins in finishing 1st (Ian) and 3rd (Oliver).
They represented Windycrest in the US Sailing Junior Olympic Festival-Midwest at
Lake St. Louis, Missouri, on the weekend of July 17-18, 2010.
They are both dedicated Windjammer sailors that are at the top of our program.
Keep up the good work.

Fleet 37 and Friends of S20's everywhere
Weatherby Lake is a tiny little clear shinning and beautiful lake near Kansas
City Mo. With all its beauty and charm and fantastic warm hearted people, it is
also one of the most challenging little race courses anywhere in America. Even
the Race Commit tie was absolutely unique, a boat load of beautiful and
intelligent young coeds from the KU sailing club, aided by an nuclear Physicist
who kept the races rolling at a very fast pace. Day one 5 races, with winds
gusting up to 20, wind directions every where there was a creek entering the
lake from the southeast or west. Throw in 25 Lazers that started ahead of our
fleet of 10 keel boats. Lazers were coming as we were going, making attention
ahead critical. Five Santana 20 and five Sonar's and you have a challenge that
was frustrating for the Sonar's as we sailed among them and beat the fleet twice
with out use of handicap. With a Bar be que and Band on Saturday Night ending a
perfectly exhausting day. But we slept well with five bullets to our credit.
Sunday morning saw a wonderful breakfast at the Fetterman home, Sheri Fetterman
is an incredible lady opening her home to Santana sailors from Oklahoma each
year. As the wind veered back to the Northwest and a light air morning was
enjoyed by all as the wind slowly built to 8 to 10 by noon. We managed a one and
two with Paul Fetterman clipping us at the finish of race seven. Bill McGovern
finished second over all and Firefly, ( sorry I lost a name) third and Paul
Fetterman fourth.
Weatherby Lake is such a challenge as short legs variable continuiously changing
winds and great competition with friendly people. Usually four to five boats at
the weather mark with out much yelling or broken fiberglass. We rounded the
leeward mark with the challenge of double handing the boat and avoiding
collisions with the pack at the leeward mark. With out a doubt this event was
the most challenging of any we have attended in years.
Congratulations to Paul Fetterman Race Chairman for an unbelievably well
organized and challenging event.
Thanks Paul and Sheri for making the Okies feel right at home.

Lake Lotawana is a real treat to sail on, both challenging and interesting as
you can see in the photo below. The Orlando Webb Regatta is June 5 & 6 with a
free MC sailing seminar by Andy Fox & friends Thursday evening and Friday before the regatta.
The NOR is here.

The sailing season is off to a nice start. Keelboats had a great day to kickoff
the Spring Series. 8 to 12 mph from the south on a 80 degree day with 12 boats
representing. The centerboards were not so lucky a week later. Eight boats raced
in constant light rain with the temps in the lower 50's. At least the wind was
not so bad as to make it totally miserable. Regardless of the weather, everyone
is having a great time and enjoying the racing. Come on out and join us, 20m
start most Sundays. Check the schedule for your fleet.
Finally! a few of the MC fleet go out on Thursday, March 18th for a sail. It was
a t-shirt and shorts type day. The winter of 2010 has to be the worst winter in
a long time for sailing, at least for the centerboard boats. Hopefully this
spring will be nice. If you have not got out on your boat since last year, go.
It is great tonic for the winter/cabin fever blues.
